character updates
| It's been 54 IC days since Vivarium has opened. With such limited resources and all these traps, characters have certainly changed over time, whether it's physically or mentally. So, this post will come in handy to track all that down! It's both for yourself and for others to see where your character is, especially if they look different than when they've first arrived. Just copy-paste the form below and then comment around, if you please! |

words words words
ORIGINAL: How did they look before arriving here? What were they like?
Heiji was a 5'11" Japanese teenager in casual dress (link1 link2) when he first showed up. He was friendly, open, and generally had a pretty sunny disposition. What a nerd. Very casual, very likely to get all up in your personal space and chat about stuff.
PHYSICAL CHANGES: Heiji is an inch taller (soon to be two inches around Day 60). He's got a relatively new scar on his left thigh (THANKS, JAKE), but otherwise doesn't look all that much different. His haircut is about the same, because idk anime hair and Hershel gave him a trim fairly recently. Physically, he's unwounded, although he wouldn't say no to some new clothes and regular showers >8(. He does make a point of washing off as much as possible, however, and I guess his hair smells like apple shampoo.
MENTAL CHANGES: Heiji is... about the same, go figure. Obviously he doesn't like it here, but whether he remembers it or not, he's used to shit like dudes lighting themselves on fire and falling off tourist attractions and getting shot and terrorist blimp attacks idek so. He's fiiine. He doesn't like Calhoun or Zero, but he actually likes most people more than when he started, even that one leathery guy with the couch problem.
If anything, he might actually be better off now than he was earlier in the game, since his memories generally support him being someone who is excellent at making snap decisions in dangerous situations, does his best to save lives, and will put up his own life to save a friend's. Remembering Sakata's confession and thwarting his suicide attempt was a painful memory, but one that reinforced Heiji's dedication to making the best of a bad situation and supporting his friends as best he can. He is enormously relieved that he helped save Kazuha's life instead of being a factor in her death.
Being betrayed by Ema threw him for a loop for a bit, because he considered her a friend; it did push him to think a bit more about who in the warehouse he trusted and to what extent. He continues to trust Hershel and Snake with his life and would basically die for them because he's insanely intense like that. Most of the other test subjects are in an "I like you and I'll risk my life for you, but if the other shoe drops and you turn out to be a murderer, I'll understand" sort of category except for probably Clive and Sasuke. It's not personal; like 95% of Detective Conan characters are potential murderers so that's just how he sees things and also how he doesn't flip out when someone turns out to have choked their sister to death over having to move out the of the house or something. One day maybe someone will point out that his outlook on murder is actually kind of weird like. Shouldn't you be more upset by all this shit going down Heiji. Maybe?
Blah blah friendship, recently he's started to like Alfendi more even though Alfendi is a total monster who likes yelling about nips I guess. He's a bit concerned about Sasuke because Sasuke is a concerning little ninja, but Clive seems to be doing better so that's good.
One other major thing that's been going on is that Heiji sort of conflated Snake with how he treats Kudou in Detective Conan, which is constantly hanging around talking about things and being really affectionate and super happy to see him to the point where it was like Hmm. What is going on here, hmm. So they're dating now and basically this. Basically the amount of time Heiji spends being moe garbage has experienced a sharp uptick.
ANYTHING ELSE: What an enormous fucking nerd, hopefully I didn't forget anything

I knew I'd forget something
And votingwise since Dani mentioned it, Heiji is also still on team Ally by Default. He's never liked the idea of betraying people, and he also considers working together not only the reasonable thing to do but necessary -- he knows what happens when people get desperate and distrustful and he'll do whatever he can to prevent something like Akiko's death from happening again.
This also factors into why he's so into getting people to enjoy themselves whenever they get a chance, it's for you own good ok. Eat some steamed ham, talk to Sleepy Cat, please don't murder each other any more...

like he'd actually have some personal investment in it instead of just generally being like hm. murder again.
