TEST DRIVE

Want to test out the setting? Not sure if your character is a good fit? Need to start gathering some samples? You're awake. You're lying on a cold floor, and your head is pounding. It feels like you've been hit with a sledgehammer. You can barely move, but you push yourself up anyway, and look around. You're in an unfamiliar warehouse, and on your left wrist is a bracelet. It feels heavy, and no matter how hard you tug at it, it refuses to come off. You can't remember how you arrived here, nor do you recognize anyone else. Try not to panic too much. ( For the purposes of the Test Drive, characters will be arriving in the warehouse instead of the Elevator/AB Room) option two. An Ambidex Game has just concluded. You have entered in your vote and there's no turning back. Did you trust your opponent and vote ally? Or did you double-cross them and vote betray? What did your opponent do? Did they vote betray while you voted ally, or did they vote ally while you voted betray? Why did you choose one or the other? Just what did you do? option three. Rules are meant to be broken. You've just reached a certain amount of BP, and you can finally have access to food (low or high quality) or to the dorms. It's great, things are getting a bit more bearable now, but seeing the others without the same "luxuries" as you, you feel like you should do something. It's against the rules to bring food or blankets out of their respective rooms, but Zero can't have eyes everywhere... can he? option four. Exploration and Escape. All the windows are bolted shut, and all the doors are locked. The exit is through the number 9 door, but no one can reach it until they have 63 BP. It'll take too long to wait for help to arrive, and to accumulate that many points. There must be some way out. Maybe if you search enough, you can find a tool to help you break down a door. option five. Wild Card. Want to try something else? Go for it! Have your own AB Game round, have characters argue against each other, try to keep the mood cheery, whatever! Make full use of the environment and mechanics, just remember to keep it within the game's structure.

I'm perfectly fine. Just wondering if we're all missing something hidden in a wall. *Sadly Snake can't find anything at all, not even with his sensitive fingertips.*

That would be too much to hope from our captors.

[Ah... Well, if he says so. Asuma takes a step back instead, trying to stay out of Snake's way.]

I wonder if we'll find anything. So far everything seems to have been really well planned out. It would be kinda weird if Zero had missed something so obvious...

I had to try, anyway. *He smiles a little bit and looks at the teenager. Even though his eyes are closed, he knows exactly where the other one is.* I've heard your voice a few times before. What's your name?

There's no harm in that. I think it would be nice if we could all escape without having to play this game, too.

[He smiles hopefully as he speaks, and it's clearly reflected in his cheerful tone.]

It's Asuma, sir!

Asuma? Now I have a name to your voice. *He thinks about this for a moment. For his time here, he'd been going by an alias that he felt comfortable with. It'd be less confusing if he just continued to use the name.* You can call me Snake. So you're in high school?

Snake, then. It's just a nickname though, right?

[Based on "call me" as opposed to "my name is" - as well as the fact that Snake isn't all that common a name as far as he knows. He hasn't really seen any reason to hide his own name so far, so he simply hasn't. ]

Wow! How'd you know?

That would be correct. *It just felt...more comfortable in a situation like this, though why exactly Snake didn't know.*

Well, you have the voice of someone younger than I am, but you don't sound like a child, ergo you're a teenager so you must be in high school.

Heheheh, I guess when you put it that way, it is pretty obvious, isn't it?

[He backs off a little further, but not because he's planning to leave or anything. If Snake can "look" around, so can he! He'll be carefully examining anything he can pick up, though.]

These rooms are really fascinating, though. It must have taken a long time to set this all up.

[Kinda makes you wonder what the point of it all is...]

Indeed. Someone with a lot of time. Can you describe the room to me in greater detail? Color, furniture and so on?

Sure!

Let's see... All of the walls are dirty and made out of blue steel. There's three chairs over here, [and he moves to them, hoping Snake will be able to tell by the distance of his voice,] set up next to a round table. Over here [step step step] are some cabinets! Aaaand...

[He gives a few tugs at the doors before shaking his head.] ...They don't open.

The plaque said it was the dining room! It doesn't look like there's any food in here, though...

*Okay, he has a better picture in his head.* What about what's in the cabinets? That seems like a likely place to hide clues and messages.

Maybe they're just stuck, but I can't get them open. I wonder if Zero sealed them off...?

[Hmm... He'll give them a few more tugs each, only to be surprised as one of the side cabinets pops open after all.]

Whoa!

[blind_badass]

As I thought. Nothing in these rooms seem to be put there just for decoration. What do you see?

One of the doors opened up! And inside is...

[...Er.]

It... looks like some kind of syringe.

[blind_badass]

Is that so. *With an idea of the room in his head, Snake walked around the table and chairs and felt each one. He ran his hand underneath the table and was rewarded with his fingertips sliding across paper.* So what's this? *He gently pried it from the table and set it on top.* I bet it's instructions. Unfortunately it's not in braille so I can't read it.

Oh-- Uh, hang on, I'll read it for you.

[There's a slight hesitation, but he does eventually just shut the cabinet, leaving the syringe there for now. They can figure out what to do with it after they've read the message.

He walks up to Snake, holding out a hand for the paper only to belatedly realize that's probably not the best way to do it. Instead, he shifts a hand to the table and taps it with his finger.]

Mind setting it down for a minute?

*He's amused that the teenager is flustered in dealing with him. Clearly he must not have spent a lot of time around blind people. He decides not to tease Asuma -- this time -- and places the note on the table.* The note was placed a while ago. I don't feel any ink, pen or printer's ink, on my hand.

[Got it in one. He's trying to be respectful, but he's clearly not accustomed to having to think about these things very often, if at all.

He gives a short cough, looking over the paper.]

Let's see...

[Mmhm, mmhm, that's--

...Huh.]

It... looks like some kind of article?

[He tries to keep his voice calm, but there's a slight tremor to it. I-if this is true, then...]

*Oh dear. This one was just a little slow.* That's a brilliant deduction. What does the article say, Asuma?

[He hesitates. It's unfair of him, really, keeping Snake in the dark just because he's having so much trouble getting the words out. But all the same, it takes him a moment to force himself to say it:]

...It's about a war. A terrible one-- it... It looks like a lot of people died.

[And quickly, with only a little desperation:] But that can't be right, can it? I didn't hear about anything like that happening.

A war? *Hmmm. Did it mean that whoever kidnapped them had something to do with the war?* Where and when did it take place?

...It's not listed. Whoever left this here must have clipped out those details.

[But why...? Was it to keep them in the dark, or...]

What kind of paper is it printed on? Is it from a news article or did someone type it on computer paper? I couldn't feel any indentations on the paper so I know it wasn't handwritten.

It looks like a newspaper clipping to me.

So...what does a newspaper clipping about a war and syringe have to do with getting through this room?
